1st December 2015 (Updated 7th December)
We brought you the news over the summer that Kylie Jenner, owner of probably the most talked about celebrity lips, was due to launch a lip range. Well the day has finally arrived and the much anticipated range has now been launched.
Yesterday the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star took to her personal Instagram account to reveal to her 44 million followers her new Kylie Lip Kit collection. As well as announcing the sale of the products on-line from her own website, she also turned up to her sisters Dash Boutique In West Hollywood to officially launch the glosses.
Kylie is known to be a fan of nude, coffee coloured shades to enhance her lips and, sticking to the style she is know for, the range sticks to this end of the palette and includes matte liquid lipsticks and a matching lip liner in natural nudes and deep brown shades. The 3 different colours on offer are True Brown K (a bark brown shade), Candy K (a pink based nude) and Dolce K.(a traditional nude).. It is claimed the lipstick dries to a powdery soft mate finish leaving a smooth, long wearing colour They come in a super cool packaging.
Stepping away from her sisters and her reality TV image, the star is keen to embrace her own passions and fully submerge herself in her new venture and leave her mark on the beauty world. To prove this, Kylie is not just the (pretty) face of the range. She has had full input in the creative process, visiting the labs testing and developing the products and having full decision making on the product and packaging and the overall outcome of the brand. Like her older sister Kim who inspired the contouring trend, Kylie is also quickly becoming a beauty icon of the social media generation. She has also tipped her toe into the fashion world and has her own clothing range Kendall + Kylie with her model sister Kendall.
The Lip Kits are available exclusively at www.LipKitKylie.com and are $29 each. However, fans who are eager to get heir hands on one may be disappointed as according to fans who attempted to buy one of the Lip Kits, they sold out in just 1 minute. The social media queen posted about the range on Instagram in the lead up to the launch, which went on sale at 9 am. PST, and she obviously got her fans so excited they sold out immediately. The Lip Kits were later seen on Ebay with up to £1,000 asking prices. However, Kylie herself says they’re not sold out and simply the popularity of the products causes issues with the site due to the volume of traffic. So if you do want to get your hands on one of the kits to achieve the famous Jenner pout, be patient and wait to order one through official channels rather than splashing out the, quite frankly ridiculous prices on Ebay.
Whilst the range has stated off small, based on how popular this first drop has been, we are expecting her to add to and expand the line with more colours being introduced soon.
If you are planning to purchase one of these products, from the reviews we have read, you might not want to get your expectations up to far. Reports on the products have mentioned the lip duo is drying and sticky on the lips and comes off easily onto whatever you put near your lips and although the colour does have staying power, it flakes on the lips. We have also read that the lip liner lasts for a lot less uses than you might expect. Also be aware the actual colours in the tube might not match the colours on the packaging.
Kylie’s lips have been the talk of the tabloids all year with many wondering just how she achieved her sought after plumped up pout. Initially she denied she’d had surgery, claiming her noticeably larger lips were due to clever make-up techniques and over-lining the lips. She eventually admitted, as we had all suspected, that she had indeed had lip filler injections. Earlier this year her lips inspired the #KylieJennerLipChallenge, where fans the world over unwisely attempted to replicate her pillow lips by sucking them into shot glasses. While this craze did appear to temporarily enhance the lips, it also left many who tried it with swollen, sore red lips, with many sharing the hilarious results on social media channels.
Miss Jenner has even been hailed as the reason for the increase in the sale of lip plumping products, a trend that is evident in the many trout pout pictures grazing all our Facebook feeds. Whether her full lips are natural or not, many of her fans wanted to achieve the same sought after look and now with the launch of her own lips products we can all have a Kylie Jenner inspired pout.
Despite recently claiming she hates wearing make-up, Kylie is known to be a make-up fan and she recently revealed all about the products she uses for her ‘everyday’ make-up look. Unsurprising we suppose, for an image conscious Kardashian, the costs to replicate her look, if you were to use the same products and tools she uses herself would be an eye watering £536.50. As someone who spends her whole life in the public eye, whether being chased down the street by the paparazzi or being followed by the cameras for the families tv show, it is perhaps no surprise she often has a make-up artist at hand to ensure she is looking her best.
However, Kylie obviously also likes to do her own make-up, as she recently showed on her website TheKylieJenner.com where she took her fans through her 12 step-by-step make-up tutorial. Her make-up bag includes, amongst other, the following products.
Benefit – Total Moisture Facial Cream, £29.50
Nars – Radiant Creamy Concealer, £22
Make Up Forever – Ultra HD Foundation, £29
Beauty Bay – Beauty Blender, £16
Crème De La Mer – La Mer The Powder, £55
Stila – Aqua Glow Perfecting Bronzer, £24
Shiseido – Eyelash Curler, £18.50
Charlotte Tilbury – Cheek to Chic Swish and Pop Blush in Ecstasy, £30
Too Faced – Chocolate Bar Palette, £35
Charlotte Tilbury – Filmstar Brone and Glow Face Sculpt and Highlight, £49
Urban Decay – All Nighter Long-Lasting Makeup Setting Spray, £21
Sadly for the reality star, she received backlash in the days after the launch of her lip range as she was accused of stealing the imagery and logo idea for the range from an LA based make-up artist Vlada Haggerty. Kyliie posted to the Lip Kit By Kylie Instagram page a picture of metallic rose gold lips dripping with gloss, which Miss Hggerty states is an imager of her work. Whilst fans wondered if this was going to be the next colour in the Jenner lip range, Kylie was forced to ac knowledge this was not her work and edited the image adding # inspo by @Vladamua. The post was later deleted.
Fans were left wondering whether Kylie had copied/taken inspiration from Vlada’s imagery and brand logo as the two are very similar and Vlada had posted images of her work over 18 months ago.
Whatever the truth is regarding where the LA based reality star got her inspiration from for her lip range, she had plenty of fans out there eager to know what she will be bringing out next and happy to ensure whatever she puts her name to will be a huge success.
